Hamish Goonetilleke

I build brands and create experiences that people champion. I believe in being something to someone, not everything to everyone. I spent seventeen years in hospitality learning how to spot brands that own their market. Now I apply that same instinct across verticals: TOLD, Setpoint Grips. Same philosophy. Different industries.

It all starts with an idea — creating, seeing opportunities and developing with vision and execution. I build relationships and add value. I am in my element when given a room to speak to, a customer experience to pull apart, or an ambitious idea worth backing. I back ambitious work. I want the people around it to enjoy the ride.

From people who know me

Business is personal

The best things I've built started with trust, a good conversation and people who wanted to make something happen together. Results matter, but so does bringing warmth, energy and honesty to the room. I'll let the people beside me tell that story.

“I've known Hamish personally for many years, but we've worked together professionally for over eight years now—he's run hospitality businesses I've owned over that time. He's an absolute hustler, someone you can rely on to step up when things inevitably go wrong. Great under pressure, but what really sets him apart is his incredible ability to build and sustain relationships in industries that can be very transactional. The ability to have a vision and bring it to life—matching the original vision—but more importantly, to refresh and adjust, both when things are going right and when things are going wrong. He's got a willingness to try new things and push the envelope. It's the professionalism and problem-solving ability he brings regularly that makes the difference. Would I back him again? 100 per cent, because I know he knows what he's doing, and he puts his full passion and effort into every project.”

“Nothing's ever too much trouble for him. He's got this brilliant 'can do' attitude and infectious positivity that makes even difficult stuff feel manageable. When things go sideways, he doesn't look for excuses—he looks for solutions, usually with a big smile. Hamish understands hospitality and, more importantly, he understands people. His judgement and relationships have added enormous value to everything we've worked on. In a heartbeat, I'd work with him again. If you get the chance, jump on board. You'll get his knowledge, experience, and sheer determination to succeed. But you'll also work with one of the nicest blokes in the business. To the next 15 years, mate. You're one of the best.”

The journey

One opportunity tends to lead to another.

I often say business is like an onion—many layers coming together to create something unique and interconnected. For me, those layers are people, timing, customer instinct, storytelling and the confidence to have a go. That's been the thread through more than twenty years of building.
